First detailed gameplay reveals ArcheAge S design philosophy

Quarter-view combat, equipment-driven progression, personal housing, economy and an escalation of conflict designed to culminate in naval warfare.

XLGAMES delivered the first in-depth look at the systems behind ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom. The team says the new MMORPG aims to preserve the freedom and economic relationships of the original ArcheAge while rebuilding systems that created unnecessary friction.

Combat and character building

Combat uses a quarter-view perspective and ties abilities to equipment. Weapons and armor directly shape the player build instead of relying entirely on a fixed traditional class.

From production to conflict

Production, resources and trade are not presented as isolated activities. The design connects economic growth, competition for routes and resources, group PvP, guilds, sieges, server conflicts and ultimately naval warfare.

Housing rebuilt

The project moves away from the classic land rush as a requirement for owning a home. The plan is to give players personal housing and production space while preserving economic choices through limited production capacity.

The sea is positioned as the convergence point between freedom, risk, economy and war.
